Digital photo frame with internet radio: setup and features
Most digital photo frames are silent. If you want a display that also fills the room with music or radio while photos cycle through, you need an app built for it. Fravora's Audio section plays internet radio stations and local music playlists alongside the slideshow — with a now-playing overlay, scheduled audio hours, and background playback that keeps music running even when the screen dims.
What the radio feature covers
- Station search: Search thousands of internet radio stations by name, genre, or country directly from the app
- Now Playing overlay: A scrolling marquee shows the current station and track info on top of photos (PRO), positioned at the top or bottom of the frame
- Ambient logo: The pulsing Fravora icon doubles as a radio indicator — it breathes while playing and responds to bass. Tap it to toggle play/pause, double-tap to open station search
- Station failure info: If a stream fails, the app shows the specific reason — timeout, access denied, unsupported format — so you can find a better stream quickly
Setup: what the onboarding covers
When you first launch Fravora, the onboarding guides you through your photo sources and first album. Radio is set up separately after onboarding:
- Open Settings → Audio and tap the Radio tab
- Search for a station by name or genre and tap it to start playing
- The station plays immediately alongside the slideshow
To save stations for quick access later and enable features like background playback and lockscreen controls, upgrade to PRO.
Free vs PRO for radio
The free tier lets you search, select, and play any station during the current session. The station is remembered while the app is open but cleared on restart. PRO adds:
- Station persistence: Your last station is remembered across restarts
- Favorites: Save stations for one-tap access without searching again
- Recently played: Quick history of the last 3 stations
- Advanced search filters: Filter by country, language, genre tag, and minimum bitrate
- Background playback: Radio keeps playing when the screen turns off or another app comes to the foreground
- Lockscreen controls: Play/pause and switch stations from the Android notification shade without opening the app
- Audio Running Hours: Set a separate schedule for when radio auto-starts and stops, independent of the slideshow schedule
- Now Playing overlay: The scrolling station and track name marquee on top of photos
Local music playlists
If you prefer your own music library over internet radio, the Music tab in the same Audio section lets you create folder-based playlists from device storage or SD card. Add whole folders recursively and the app scans for mp3, flac, aac, ogg, opus, wav, and m4a files. Free tier supports one playlist; PRO unlocks unlimited playlists, automatic background rescans, and full sort modes including shuffle.
Separate audio and slideshow schedules
One detail worth knowing: the audio running hours are independent of the slideshow running hours. You can keep music playing in the morning while photos are still in standby, or stop audio earlier than the frame display. Both are configured under Settings → Audio and Settings → Slideshow respectively.
Connecting a Bluetooth speaker
If the tablet's built-in speaker is not loud enough for a room, connect a Bluetooth speaker. Fravora includes a Preferred Bluetooth Device setting under Audio that lets you select a specific paired device for playback, so the app always routes audio to the right speaker without manual switching each time.
Kitchen and living room setups
A common use case is a kitchen tablet that shows family photos and plays a morning radio station. The frame wakes on schedule, starts the slideshow, and auto-plays the last radio station. The now-playing overlay shows the current track, the ambient logo pulses with the music, and the whole thing runs without any interaction needed. If you want to skip a station or pause, the ambient logo tap controls work from across the room, or voice commands can handle it if enabled.
